If you’re still looking for that special item to fill that empty space in the living room — maybe a nice piece of canvas art for that wall — you might just find it at the Summer 2008 Antiques for Everyone fair at the NEC, Birmingham.
The huge exhibition space is being transformed into an Indiana Jones-style treasure trove by hundreds of specialist dealers selling more than 50,000 antiques.
Exhibitors specialise in everything from fine period furniture to pottery, porcelain, glass, contemporary art, silver, jewellery, clocks, barometers, brass, copper, early toys, sculpture, engravings, textiles, arts and crafts, art nouveau and art deco.
It’s the UK’s largest indoor vetted event devoted to antiques. This year’s special attraction is a display of Carlton Ware ceramics.
Organisers are expecting crowds of more than 20,000.
A spokesman said: “To provide new and experienced collectors with the chance to buy from across all areas of the antiques market, the fair is divided into two sections: Section One features antiques and works of art usually shown in sumptuous room-set style displays that demonstrate how period furniture, paintings and decorative accessories can complement any home.
“Section Two features dealers offering all kinds of antiques and collectibles up to 1950.”
An estimated £10m worth of antiques is expected change hands during and after the fair.
Antiques for Everyone starts Thursday, July 24 and ends Sunday, July 27. Admission is £10 on the door.
