Canvas Prints Photo Tips

10/07/2009

Taking photos with a view to immortalise them as a canvas prints brings with it a huge amount of extra pressure to get those snaps right. One slightly misplaced point of focus and the whole effect is lost.

Thankfully there are some simple ways to maximise your chances of nailing your shots every time, whether you are taking a reportage-style photo of your family, a glorious landscape image, or anything else that you may fancy as canvas prints fodder.

As with all photography one of the first things you should think about is the lighting. It is this that will really make the difference between a canvas that stops you in your tracks, and one that fades into the background and goes unnoticed.

To avoid bad light do not take images in the midday sun, instead look for a time when the sun is lower in the sky and can create lots of less harsh light. This also means you may well capture those intricate shadows and hues that make canvas photos so good.

The next thing to think about is composition and framing of the photo. If you are photographing a person try and focus in on them and lose the background to make the subject really leap from your canvas. Make sure that background is as uncluttered as possible also.

And if you are thinking about trying to capture a landscape for your canvas prints then think about trying to choose a different crop or angle to avoid the ‘seen-it-all-before’ comments. Perhaps try and get an old stone wall in the foreground of a mountain shot, for instance to mark your image out as different and eye catching.
